Broken Eggs c1756 by French Painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805); a portraitist, genre and historic painter.

This is a beautifully detailed painting of a genre scene within a house tat shows a servant girl wearing a blue cap, black shoes with red trim and a white top and blue bottom dress that ties in the front also wearing a long white scarf sitting on something on the floor.

On the floor, to her left is a basket and a yellow hat with blue and pink ribbons and within the basket a cloth and eight eggs with four additional eggs broken on the floor.

Behind her are a young man that has removed his brown hat, wearing a velvet cloak, red jacket, blue-grey pants, white laced up leather leggins and brown shoes.

Beside the young man is an angry old woman that is wearing a cloth cap, brown skirt, white blouse, green jacket and a green stripped apron and black shoes, that he is retraining with his left arm, as she agitatedly points to the broken eggs on the floor.

Beside the old woman is a small boy about the age of 5 years, dressed in a white shirt, brown jacket, red pants, white socks and brown shoes; that is holding another broken egg in his hands by a small wooden barrel that has a brown bowl resting on lid that covers it.

The scene is then completed with a doorway behind them that leads to another room on the right and on the left by an elevated window a large basket with wooden sticks, a wooden table partially covered with a cloth that has a white teapot and a brown vase resting on it; with a wooden bench beside it.

On the wall behind the table are more sticks of wood in the corner; and recessed in the wall is a glass vase sitting on what may be an indoor well; as there is a rope wrapped around a cylindrical piece of wood that hangs below the sill on which the glass vase has been placed.
