Danaë c1705-15 by Italian Painter Paolo de Matteis (1662 - 1728) a Neopolitan artist that broke away from the Baroque style of the time acquiring international fame for his delicate and graceful manner of painting.
From Greek Mythology Danaë (of ancient Greece), the daughter and only child of King Acrisius of Argos and his wife Queen Eurydice; while lying in bed in the nude, is visited by Zeus as a shower of gold coins, while a cherub watches on partially hiding behind a red drape with her hand maiden at the foot of the bed tries to collect as many gold coins as she possibly can.
