Death of Sappho c1881 by Spanish Painter Miguel Carbonell Selva (1854 - 1896); a Catalan Painter, Muralist and Poet known for his realistic landscapes and portraits. This is a portrait of the Archaic Greek Poet Sappho (620 - 570 BCE) from the island of Lesbos, as she stands over the cliffs edge, seemingly read to cast her self off into the high waves that are pounding the beach.
