Description
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not by Belgian Painter Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans (1811 - 1888); mainly known for his highly detailed portraits and genre scenes. Given the nickname The Belgian Gerard Dou (1613 - 1675) a Dutch Golden Age Painter.
An idyllic portrait of a time gone by depicting a family out on their estate with two of the elder daughters shown in beautiful full rich color dresses in front of a group of trees with flowers, playing the game He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, as they stroll down a path to an area of an open garden where we can see a cupid statue with arrow and bow in hand along with two people seated.
Next to them are two younger sisters playing and a brother chasing butterflies with his dog getting in on the act and in the distance near the home are the husband and wife out for a walk as well.
