Het Jongste Broertje (The Youngest Brother) by German Painter Johann Georg Meyer (1813 - 1886); who specialized in creating Biblical art scenes as well as genre peasant and family scenes.
Het Jongste Broertje is a beautiful warming scene of two young children; a boy and a girl of maybe 5 and 7 years of age watching over their baby brother who is sleeping in his crib while holding on to his baby rattle.
The central focus of the piece is on the children as the light streaming in through the window cast a warm glow over the children, and in the darker recesses of the room we can lightly see a bureau with a Bible resting on top along what appears to be two vases and a silver object.
