Judith Beheading Holofernes by Dutch Engraver Cornelis Galle I (1576 - 1650) c1590 - 1650 from a painting Flemish Painter Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640); who was considered to be, one of the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque Tradition and who was also a painter of the Renaissance Period.
A powerful and dramatic scene of the Old Testament in which the young beautiful widow Judith seduces the the Assyrian General Holofernes sent by King Nebuchadnezzar to lay siege on the Jewish city of Bethulia.
Once subdued she then proceeds to behead him as he lay in bed with the help of her servant; while cherubs watch on as the deadly deed is taking place; thus saving her people from the Assyrian attack.
