Mademoiselle de Lancey (1851 - 1913) c1876 by French Painter Carolus-Duran (Charles Auguste Émile Durant - 1837 - 1917); was one of the most renownes portrait painters of high society in the French Third Republic.
Charles Auguste Émile Durant was commissioned by Alice Tahl Dite de Lancey to paint this portrait of her.
The portrait depicts her wearing an elegant white silk ball gown with a lace bodice that is embroidered with pearls and on her right hand she is wearing a gold bracelet; as she reclines on a Chaise Lounge that is lavishly decorated with floral pattern fabric and large decorative pillows.
The image when present in the Salon of 1877 was titles: The Lady with the Red Cushion. Mademoiselle de Lancey was in her time considered to be one of the great courtesans of Parisian society during the Belle Epoque era.
