Orphans c1850 by British Painter George Elgar Hicks (1824 - 1914); known for his society portraits and for his large genre paintings that emulated the style of British Painter William Powell Frith (1819 - 1909).
A portrait of two orphaned girls, one about 15 or 16 years of age taking care of a younger girl about 3 or 4 years of age that is sitting on her lap asleep with her head on the older girls chest.
