Description
Portrait of Alida Christina Assink c1833 by Dutch Painter Jan Adam Kruseman (1804 - 1862); a well known 19th century portrait painter in Amsterdam, and director of the Royal Academy of Art, which preceded the National Academy.
This is a full portrait of Alida Assink (1810 - 1886) who at the time was 23, sitting on a green chair on a terrace in front of a balustrade (a railing supported by balusters).
She is dressed in the fashion of the time, in a white lace blouse with collar that lies over a wine red dress with puff sleeves, along with a belt and gold buckle; on top of the lace blouse is a gold neck chain and jeweled gold broach.
Over her left arm which rest on her lap is an ocher colored cashmere scarf and in her left hand she is holding an open book.
To her left hanging on the chair is a yellow lace bonnet and a green lace scarf; while to her right is a large vase sitting on the end of the railing, where her right arm is also resting on the cashmere scarf that wraps behind her.
In the background is a tree behind the column to her left and a forest scene with a lake, while in the foreground is her pet dog standing and looking up towards her.
This is a retouched digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image.
