Description
The Beeches c1845 by American Painter & Engraver Asher Brown Durand (1796 - 1886) was part of the Romanticism Art Movement and was a graduate of the Hudson River School. Asher's main focus was on landscape paintings.
This beautiful and tranquil forest scene with a sheep herder walking his sheep down a dirt road toward a lake shows finely rendered beech and basswood trees in all their glory.
The painting was commissioned for the New York collector Abraham M. Cozzens; at the time a member of the executive committee of the American Art Union; and is the first work by Durand to use the Plein-Air Oi; sketch technique, which allowed artist to produce accurate light effects in their artwork.
This is a retouched digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image.
