Alexander III of Scotland Rescued from the Fury of a Stag by the Intrepidity of Colin Fitzgerald (The Death of the Stag) c1786 by Benjamin West (1738 - 1820); was a self taught American artist known for painting famous historical scenes and is largely responsible for the launch of the London Royal Academy after settling in London and impressing King George III with his artistic talent.
