The Nightmare c1781 by Swiss Painter Henry Fuseli (1741 - 1825); known for specializing in creating artwork that delved into the supernatural. Mr Fuseli was also an accomplished Draughtsman, Writer and holder of the position of Professor of Painting and Keeper at the Royal Academy.
The Nightmare is Henry Fuseli best known work and the one that he is best known for. It depicts a young women sleeping, while an incubus squats on her torso; while in the dark background lurks a black horse with large peering eye looking into infinity.
