Venus On The Waves c1769 by French Painter François Boucher (1703 - 1770); also known as a draftsman, engraver and decorator in the French Rococo style, was well known for his lavish mythological, allegorical and erotic motifs and was the court painter of Louis XV and a favorite of the Marquise de Pompadour.
François Boucher flamboyant and erotic motif of Venus the Roman Goddess of Love sitting on the blue green ocean waves with a Dove resting on her right thigh while she holds a torch in her right hand and a flower in her left.
Above her two Cherubs playing wit a garland of white, pink and red roses along with two doves; one which has the same type of roses in its beak.
At her feet is another Cherub with it's back facing the viewer going through a quiver (pharetra) filled with arrows with two more doves and a large fish completing the scene.
