Allegory on the Peace of Pressburg c1808 by Italian Painter Andrea Appiani (1754 - 1817) of the Classical Period and court painter to Emperor Napolean Bonaparte.
This Allegory piece shows Napolean with his wife standing by his side accepting a symbol of pieces from an angel, as it relates to the fourth Peace of Pressburg or the Treaty of Pressburg which was signed on December 27, 1805 by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and Holy Roman Emperor Francis II as a result of the French victories over the Austrians at Ulm (25 September - 20 October) and Austerlitz (2 December); with the treaty being signed in Pressburg (Pozsony, today's Bratislava), Hungary.
