Danaé c1891 by by French Painter Alexandre-Jacques Chantron (1842 - 1918), who studied under François-Édouard Picot, Tony Robert-Fleury and William-Adolphe Bouguereau. His early works were mainly still life pieces and portraits, but on later years he transitioned to painting nudes in the style of Bouguereau; while also experimenting in the early technology of photography.
Danaé from Greek Mythology, is the daughter and only child of King Acrisius of Argos and his wife Queen Eurydice. Danaë is the mother of the hero Perseus that was fathered by the Greek God Zeus and she is credited with founding the city of Andrea in Latium during the Bronze Age.
