Description
Venus, Adonis and Cupid c1590 by Italian Painter Annibale Carracci (1560 - 1609), is a religious Baroque Style painting, depicting the Angel announcing the resurrection of Christ to the three Marys.
As the title suggest this is a Roman Mythological painting of Venus the Roman Goddess of Love, Beauty, Desire, Sex, Fertility, Prosperity and Victory; along with Cupid the God of Desire, Erotic Love, Attraction and Affection (often portrayed as the son of Venus and the God of War Mars), and Adonis - the mortal lover of the Goddess Aphrodite of Greek Mythology.
Cupid is filled with glee as Venus drips blood from her chest presumably done with the arrow in Cupids hand, as Venus looks at Adonis and he at her during what seems to be a hunting party as Adonis has a bow in his hand and three hunting dogs by his side.
This is a retouched digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image.
