Description
A Cosey Corner c1884 by American Painter Frank Millet (1846 - 1912); who was known for his specialization in American and British costume genre artwork.
This genre painting by Millet depicts a young woman sitting by a window as the sun illuminates the interior, relaxing by a cup of tea and an open fireplace or hearth, reading a book.
It is a romantic re-creation of several different eighteenth century British fashions, and the interior architecture also seems to be British; several features of the room correspond to a published description of the colonial New England kitchen in Millet's East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, studio.
In later life, Millet was an active member in many arts organizations, which included the American Academy in Rome; and sadly while returning to New York on academy business, Millet was one of the victims that went down on the Titanic.
This is a retouched digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image.
