Description
Portrait of a Young Woman as Flora c1633 by Dutch Golden Age [1575 - 1675] Painter Paulus Moreelse (1571 - 1638); a portraitist and architect of the late 16th and early 17th century.
This is a wonderful Dutch Golden Age painting of an alluring young lady posing as the Roman Goddess of Flowers and of the season of Spring, known as Flora.
She is in an early 17th century outfit that comprises a large brimmed deep gold colored hat with an inner silk or satin light blue lining that has a pink rose attached to the inner brim that is folded upwards.
Beneath her hat is a shear light blue kerchief that is flowing down her back on her right side and over her right shoulder, with her left hand holding a bunched up portion of the kerchief up near her right shoulder.
Her clothing comprises a white deep-V blouse over which she has a gold colored scarf that has a pink rose pinned to it; and over her white blouse she is wearing a silk or satin blue dress that has slits on the top of the sleeves.
In her right hand, which is lifted up to the height of her torso she has a wreath that seems to be comprised of pine leaves and additional flowers of white, red, blue and violet colors.
